NEGS students are looking a little different as they make a difference for a good cause.

Students from Years 7 to 12 have generously donated 20-30cm of their hair to the Ponytail Project following an event held last week.

In addition to their hair donations, the NEGS community has raised a fantastic $4,154, surpassing the original goal of $1,000.

These funds will go towards supporting cancer foundation programs, while the donated hair will be crafted into wigs for individuals fighting cancer.

The event’s success was greatly enhanced by the expertise of Fiona Purkiss, NEGS receptionist and professional hairdresser. Fiona generously volunteered her time and skills to assist students in preparing their hair for donation, ensuring that each ponytail met the necessary criteria for wig production.

NEGS School Principal, Liz van Genderen, praised the students for their act of kindness: “We are proud of our students for their selflessness and commitment to helping others. This event not only highlights their generosity but also their understanding of the impact they can make in their community.”

The Ponytail Project is dedicated to providing high-quality wigs to individuals experiencing hair loss due to medical conditions such as cancer and alopecia.

The contributions from NEGS students will play a crucial role in bringing comfort and confidence to those in need.
