NAMOI SOIL SYMPOSIUM
This event is being hosted by Gunnible Landcare Inc & Gunnedah Urban Landcare Group, with support from Tamworth Regional Landcare staff, folowing requests by local farmers to bring Joel Williams back to the area in 2025. Speaker information:
- JOEL WILLIAMS – Joel is an independent international Soil Health Educator, advocating rethinking soils through the lens of biology. Information will be provided on soil managment, plant nutrition and integrated approaches of sustainable food production.
- CAMERON LECKIE:as the Regional Soil Coordinator, SQNNSW, Craig will speak to the the National Soil Strategy which was released in May 2021 with the aim of improving our understanding of Australia’s soil and how to manage it better.
- DR ROB BANKS: Rob is a Certified Practising Soil Scientist, who established SoilFutures Consulting in 2004 based in the Liverpool Plains . Robert has over 30 years of practical and academic experience in soil science, geomorphology, research and trouble-shooting . His topic is “Rapid soil development in response to land use change”.
- SCOTT MCCALMAN & AMY PERFREMENT: Scott and Amy will present “Local cropping strategies – production & PROFIT”. Scott has a mixed cropping enterprise covering 1,150 hectares, on heavy black clays. 60% dryland and 40% overhead irrigation. He is focussed on improving soil health based on planting a winter mixed species cover crop and terminating manually to provide water retention, green manure, generate and build soil nutrition, and weed suppression before planting cotton. Amy farms at Piallaway, and was mentored by Scott over 3 years in her cropping program. Amy will present on the results of this program.Amy Perfrement is a seventh-generation farmer committed to improving soil health by making small changes to reduce the use of synthetic inputs. She is growing a variety of cash crops and maintains a strong focus on continually learning by trying new things that will improve soil health and production.

This event is fully catered with locally grown ingredients- you can look forward to wonderful smoked bbq lamb from “The Conscious Farmer”, roasted vegetables and salads, bread from the famous “Reverence” bakers, and Emerald Hill CWA ladies providing morning and afternoon teas.
