Agency and Major Client Advertising sales

Are you an advertising sales gun with experience dealing with agencies and bigger businesses? Do you live in or have good local knowledge of the New England and North Coast of NSW? Do you want to bank with uncapped commission?

We’re looking for you.

We are a fearless independent media company and committed to delivering a real news service that asks the hard questions, tells the real story, and being a genuine Fourth Estate force in the best parts of the world. Really.

After two years we are now the number 1 news site in the New England region, and will soon be starting up a second masthead on the North Coast of NSW. That means that we need to ramp up the sales both in New England, and develop an entirely new customer base on the North Coast.

We’re looking for equally fearless sales people who love our communities as much as we do to join the team, and help us stretch beyond small local clients to a revenue more reflective of our value.

Role Description

This is a contract commission-only role for an experienced and ambitious advertising sales professional, preferably with experience dealing with agencies. We are offering a very generous incentive structure that will see you earn on the first ad sold and potential OTE of mid six figures, and trailing commissions for up to 12 months.

You will be responsible for establishing and managing relationships with major clients and advertising agencies, booking advertising, and building the book. Day-to-day tasks will include communicating with potential and existing clients and agencies, pitching and closing sales, and developing strategic plans to drive advertising sales. The role requires a proactive approach to identify new business opportunities, implement new systems as we expand, and increase our client base.

We will back you with strong sales admin support and a great product to sell. The only limit is on your ability to sell.

Its a remote role so can be based anywhere, but somewhere in the North Coast or New England is strongly preferred so that you can manage major clients on a face to face basis.

Immediate start available for the right candidates.

Advertising Sales Representatives

New England Times is an independent media company, providing high quality local news without paywalls, covering the New England region of New South Wales, Australia.

We are fearless and committed to delivering the New England and North Coast a real news service that asks the hard questions, tells the real story, and being a genuine Fourth Estate force in the best parts of the world. Really.

After two years we are now the number 1 news site in the region, and will soon be starting up a second masthead on the North Coast of NSW. That means that we need to ramp up the sales both in New England, and develop an entirely new customer base on the North Coast.

We’re looking for equally fearless sales people who love our communities as much as we do to join the team.

Role Description

This is a flexible remote role for up to four Business Development and Sales professionals, preferably with advertising, media, or B2B sales backgrounds. You will have the option of base plus commission, or for those who really back themselves, a very generous commission only structure that will see you earn on the first ad sold and potential OTE of six figures, and trailing commissions for up to 12 months.

You will be responsible for generating leads, booking advertising, and engaging in customer service to build and maintain client relationships. Day-to-day tasks will include communicating with potential and existing clients, pitching and closing sales, and developing strategic plans to drive advertising sales. The role requires a proactive approach to identify new business opportunities and expand the client base.

Its a remote role so can be based anywhere, but somewhere in the North Coast or New England is a big plus. If you live elsewhere, you must have solid local knowledge of the area. And if you’re not a local, we’ll know, so don’t bother.

What we are looking for

  • Strong sales background
  • Excellent Communication and Customer Service skills
  • Experience in Lead Generation
  • Ability to work independently and remotely
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or related field is a plus, but not required
  • Proven track record in achieving sales targets
  • Experience in advertising or media industry is highly desirable
  • Strong local knowledge of the New England, North Coast or both.

Immediate start available for the right candidates. Applications close 30 October. Applications close when we find the right people.

Journalists

The New England Times is always on the hunt for local journalists to add to the team. You can either work freelance, or we have a limited capacity to add on-staff journalists who are based in the parts of the region we need more boots on the ground.

You ideally live in the 12 LGAs of the New England/North West to be considered. Those who live here understand why: the New England has a culture all of its own, and if you don’t live it, you won’t get it. (We’re also accepting early applications for our new North Coast site.)

If you have lived here previously and still have strong connections, we’re happy to hear from you too.

We invite all our freelancers into our Slack space so you can feel a part of the team and collaborate on stories with fellow freelancers and our on staff journos.

We offer a sliding scale of freelance rates based on complexity of the story rather than a per word arrangement. We can negotiate on costs or rates once you have proven your value to the team.

If you have a nose for finding a great story, and the experience of delivering, we would love to hear from you.
