New England kids are spilt for choice this school holidays with an abundance of activities and youth week events to entertain them.
Tamworth Regional Council has a number of crafting and gaming events planned, both in Tamworth itself and in Nundle, Kootingal, and Barraba. All ages are welcome to drop in to the Tamworth Library this afternoon for a games day with a wide selection of board games, or build with Lego and try some of our Lego Challenges. Lego is a popular theme this holidays, with a highlight being Sphero Chariot Racing at Barraba next week – build a chariot out of Lego Technic pieces, connected to a Sphero Robot to be raced around an arena. Gunnedah has everything from story time and art at the Library, to games, to African drumming and skateboarding. Today’s events include a movie session at the Civic and skincare workshops. Kids can go fishing on Thursday at Lake Keepit, or the Youth Orchestral Camp will stage a concert featuring musicians from the Sydney Youth Orchestra, Western Sydney Youth Orchestra and regional guest musicians at the Gunnedah Shire Band Hall on Friday, April 19. Walcha is hosting a Youth Week Festival tomorrow at Peter Fenwicke Oval including a come-and-try circus drop zone! You can try your skills on the trapese, uni-cycles, juggling or other fun things, plus there’s plenty of food, prizes and more. Apparently local kids wanted something different… you got it. Armidale has the youngest population in the region so always has stacks of activities. There’s a full schedule of events at both the Guyra and Armidale Libraries, plus Sydney Youth Orchestras and 300 of NSW’s finest young orchestral musicians are holding a showcase concert at Lazenby Hall on Saturday.
