Local State Emergency Services are calling on residents to make smart decisions over the weekend, as further rain is predicted for our region.
“If you don’t need to be on the roads, then stay home,” said James Weighman, Community Capability Officer Tamworth NSW State Emergency Service.
“We have had 40 job callouts in the last 24 hours.”
“From that number over 30 have been calls for assistance with leaking roofs or requests for sandbags to prevent water entering premises.”
“There have been 5 requests for vehicles trapped in flood water and another request for evacuation for people stranded in between flooded creeks.”
“We had a call out for 3 vehicles stranded between two creeks at Coolatai , 4 people total were impacted with floodwaters rising around them.”
Residents are being urged, where possible to stay indoors, if you have to be out on the roads please drive to the conditions and don’t enter floodwater.
Review traffic conditions prior to travel and if unsafe reconsider need to travel or identify an alternate route
“We have had multiple callouts across the zone for cars either trapped in or in-operative after attempting to drive through floodwater,” said James.
“Please don’t put yourself or our volunteers in harm’s way by driving into flooded causeways, roads or creeks, floodwater is very deceiving, you don’t know what is under the water or the condition of the road.”
If you do need the assistance of the NSW SES please call on 132 500.
