Love it or hate it, daylight saving will come to an end this weekend, so this is your timely reminder to turn your clocks back an hour this Sunday.

While most people appreciate an extra hour sleep, the switch can be problematic for many farmers, especially those in the north and northwest of NSW, or for parents transitioning their kids, however, it also provides the opportunity to be in sync with our neighbours to the north, QLD.

What does the New England think?

We asked residents of the New England what they think of daylight saving, and here is what they had to say.

Ellie Mae: “I love long afternoons. I have time for my life. When it changes back I feel like a bug scuttling around in the dark. I don’t care one bit about driving to work in the daylight and I’d rather not be woken at 5am by the sun.”

Colin: “Serves no purpose.”

Tanya: “It starts to early on the calendar and finishes too late. They need to shorten the calendar months. Personally I hate it any time.”

Tania: “I think it’s great. Means I can get more done in the afternoons after work. Means the kids aren’t at sports training in the dark and I’m not hanging the washing out by torch light.”

Angus: “Starts a month to early and should finish a month earlier, or scrap all together. Coming from a construction background we need daylight to work. I know companies that have a later start in winter because 6 to 6.30 starts can’t be done. This pushes tradie traffic into an increasing peak hour traffic volume, increasing delays.”

Alisa: “I like to be in actual time, without time differences between the states each summer!”
