Friends of Myall Creek Memorial are once again putting the call out to local students to enter their best art, writing or song into their annual Thoughts ‘n’ Dreams Competition. The theme of this years’ event is “65,000 years of awesomeness? Let’s celebrate!”.

The competition is now in its fourteenth year and attracts a high calibre of entries from both locally and interstate. The official media release says that the competition aims to unite hundreds of school aged children across the country in the one goal of saying no to racism and yes to treating everyone with respect and understanding.

Entrants are required to respond to the year’s theme in their chosen medium, be it written (essays, poems, or short stories), artworks of any kind, song, or even dance routines. Entries are welcomed as either individual, or whole class group projects.

There are four age categories available for entry: Category 1 for Kindergarten to Year 3 students, Category 2 for Year 4 to Year 6, Category 3 for Year 7 to Year 9 and Category 4 for Year 10 to Year 12. There will be three prizes awarded in each category, with the first prize winners winning $50 and a book, and the two highly commended entries winning $25 and a book.

Entry is free and students are encouraged to enter as many different times as they wish. Entries may be provided either by mail, or via email and the deadline for all entries is 5pm on Friday 17th May 2024.

All finalists will be notified via phone prior to the official announcement of winners, which will be held at the 2024 Myall Creek Memorial ceremony on Sunday 9 June 2024.

If you, or your school group are interested in entering the competition, more information can be found on the Friends of Myall Creek website.
