Despite the lack of water around the region, Inverell’s Down to Earth Inverell Garden Club is ready to host their annual Open Garden weekend from Saturday October 28th to Sunday October 29th.

For the first time ever, all three gardens will be on the one road, Yetman Road, with the furthest location only 13 kilometres from town.

“The gardens are looking pretty good considering people are struggling to keep their lawns green, as it is so dry, otherwise things are blooming a little earlier this year but looking lovely.” said Susan Dolby, organiser Down to Earth Inverell Garden Group

“The last weekend of October and the first weekend in November tend to be when gardens in Inverell are at their peak.”

“We thought people might like going in the one direction and this year is very much quality over quantity,”

“They are all very large gardens, which is why we only have the three as people won’t be able to do anymore in one day.”

All three gardens at 156, 714 and 1337 Yetman Road will open to the public from 10am to 4pm daily, with all profits being donated to the Wespac Rescue Helicopter.

“All admission proceeds will go to the Wespac Rescue Helicopter, and there are other opportunities to donate with refreshments and different stalls available at each garden,” said Susan.

“Down to Earth Inverell Garden group will have their plant stall at 714, Wespac Chopper will have their BBQ at 156, and the Red Cross with cater at 1337, as well as other stalls at every garden, with a man selling plants coming from Glen Innes and a woman bringing her potting mix from Tenterfield.”

“And we can’t forget the entertainment, the Sapphire City Concert Band is playing at 11 o’clock at Kelsare,714 Yetman Rd.”

Organiser are reminding visitors to dress for the conditions, with appropriate sunshade hats a sunscreen, so you can enjoy the outdoors even more.

And if you feel you want to show off your garden next year, head out to this year’s event and speak with the organisers.

“We are always interested in people who want to open their gardens.” Said Susan.
