October is Small Business Month! And to celebrate, we’re highlighting some of the great small businesses we have throughout the region.

Today we have a furniture store in Glen Innes, a computer store in Armidale, and a pet treat bakery in Tamworth.

Furnished in Glen

Furnished in Glen is locally owned Liarne Williams and Ben Thorpe in the heart of Glen Innes.

Furnished In Glen is the shopping destination for furniture, manchester, bedding and accessories, offering exceptional customer service and advice.

“At Furnished In Glen, we are passionate about your home,” Liarne said.

Liarne worked for Myer for 15 years and Ben was working as a chef for many years before they opened their store that has everything to make a house a home.

“Together we opened Furnished In Glen in October 2015. We could see a need in the community after a couple of major retail stores closed.”

“So here we are 8 years later celebrating Furnished In Glen’s 8th Birthday.”

Liarne says they are having a storewide sale in October to celebrate the anniversary.

Furnished in Glen have a large selection of Australian Made products to choose from including lounges, bedding and manchester. They stock well known brands such as Sheridan, Logan & Mason, MiniJumbuk, A H Beard and more. They also have their own range of mattresses – the Furnished In Glen Mattress Ranges are made exclusively for the store by Comfort Sleep Bedding.

Armidale Computers

Armidale Computers is a locally owned Computer and Technology Sales, Service and Repair Center who has providing services to the New England Region for over 22 years.

The owners of Armidale Computers, Mark and Tara MacDonald are both locally born and bred and grew up knowing the value and importance of quality service in small business. Mark is the son of Norrie and Robyn MacDonald, who owned and operated ROMAC Engineering and Tara the daughter of Bill and Theresa Knight of Knights Transport, both successful Armidale businesses that were started from scratch and both operated for approximately 40 – 50 years.

Located on Marsh Street next to Moxon’s Bakery, Armidale Computers has built its strength on after-sales service and support.

“It became apparent very early on that there was a definite need for Post Sales Service that is not offered by the large, multi-national technology retailers,” Mark said.

“By providing this after-sales service and support over the years to the community, we have built an exceptional customer base within the region.”

With a shop full of stock, onsite services available, exceptional after-sales service and support, Internet Cafe for public use, Armidale Computers is still Armidale’s one-stop IT and Computer Sales, Service and Repair Center.

BeWoofed Pawtisserie & Accessories Tamworth

Bianca Foster, the heart and soul behind BeWoofed Pawtisserie, is a pet lover extraordinaire and a dedicated entrepreneur with a deep passion for providing the very best for our four-legged friends.

Bianca’s journey into the world of pet treats began with her two beloved girls, Luna and Lily. Luna’s allergies to poultry led Bianca on a quest to find suitable, delicious, and safe treat alternatives for her furry companions. This personal mission not only transformed her pets’ lives but also became the driving force behind the creation of BeWoofed Pawtisserie.

“We love cooking for friends and family so it was only natural to extend our food inspiration to the two girls who watched attentively whilst we baked,” Bianca said.

Luna and Lily have taste tested all BeWoofed recipes ensuring they meet the high standards every fur baby deserves. These delicious, healthy and homemade treats are preservative free, contain locally sourced ingredients and are made with 100% love from our kitchen to yours.

“Obviously there was a lot of trial and error in preparing our menu, throughout those difficult times and often hilarious episodes of smoke alarms complimented by Luna howling and Lily bolting to our walk-in-robe… I have genuinely appreciated their dedicated, unconditional love.”

With a strong commitment to quality and safety, Bianca sources her ingredients locally from the picturesque New England region, known for its rich and fertile lands. By doing so, she ensures that every ingredient used in her treats is fresh, full of nutritional goodness, and supports local businesses, fostering a sense of community and sustainability.

“What makes BeWoofed Pawtisserie truly special is our unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of pets, our dedication to quality, our support for local communities, and our personalised approach to customer care.”

“When you choose us, you’re not just buying treats and accessories, you are becoming part of a community that cares deeply about the happiness and health of your fur baby,” she said.

Bianca’s dedication and passion for the well-being of pets and their owners have not gone unnoticed. Her commitment to excellence in pet services earned her the prestigious Tamworth Business Chamber Award for Customer Excellence in Pet Services.

Throughout October, we’ll run stories highlighting the great local businesses we have right here in our communities. This is a free service – the businesses highlighted have not paid for this story.
