Tingha will soon have its own monthly markets to be held in Ruby Street on the first Saturday of the month starting in May.

The fantastic volunteers at Tingha Connect are launching the monthly markets which will include yummy homemade goodies, books, garden art, antiques, artwork & more. Tingha Connect is a small community group that commenced just over two years ago. The organisation was set up to assist in meeting various needs of the most vulnerable citizens of our community, primarily the elderly and those people with minimal support networks. Coordinator Cate Ivins says they also assist other community groups in Tingha with organising events and activities.

“At the beginning 2021 we commenced a weekly community lunch in the Tingha Town Hall and at the beginning of this year had to put it “on hold” for a variety of reasons.”

“As a part of the lunch we had a “pop up”, mini op shop, which developed into a weekly “garage sale”, at another location in Tingha, it being our primary means of income and a great way of meeting people in the community or people travelling through.”

“From that base, we offer referral to other agencies, better set up for meeting more complex needs.”

Cate says the monthly markets are a progression from the weekly garage sale towards bringing life back into the centre of Tingha, supporting the current businesses and, hopefully, future business enterprises.

“We are also keen to see the arts and cultural expressions given space,” she says.

The group are hoping to work in co-operation with the monthly markets at Bundarra, those being held on the 3rd Saturday of each month, through advertising and promotion.

Stallholders are welcome and wanted! And at just $5 per site for those with insurance and $10 for those without insurance, it’s a very affordable prospect. For more information, contact Cate on 0450 588 627. The Stallholder booking form is available here.

The first market will be held next month on May 6, from 9am to 1pm.
