The Gentleman of Farrer are keeping the legacy alive, as they take the shave for cancer.

74 students and 5 teachers from Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School have raised their hands for the cut, honouring those of the past, currently suffering and those entering the unknown future fight with Leukemia.

“One of our teachers lost his son to Leukemia around ten years ago, and since then the school has really gotten behind the cause to raise funds and support for those people who are currently suffering.” said Katie Rowe, Year 12 Coordinator Farrer Memorial High School.

In 2023, the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave will celebrate 25 years – making it one of Australia’s longest running and most iconic fundraising events.

More than 2 million Aussies have taken part – with an estimated 39,000 kilograms of hair removed. And our local team have added to that count.

Before making the shave on March 7, the students took part in a crazy hair event, carving faces and trying on a new colour.  But it was all short lived, saying goodbye mullets, skullets, luscious locks and crazy colour, and all for a good cause.

“It is all about school spirit at Farrer and we realise that Leukemia foundation has had a big impact on people within our school community, as well as the whole nation, and getting our head shaved really promotes the message that we support those suffering and  going through those hard times and the families around them.” Said Vice Captain, Nick Mead.

“We have a goal to raise $50,000 and we are nearly at $40,000 so we are on track.”

In total, Farrer Memorial High School has raised over $280 thousand dollars for the Leukemia Foundation, and a promise to continue the legacy.

“This year our boys have done an amazing job and we are really proud of them.” Said Ms Rowe.

“A big thank you to those who took part, those who donated, and to the hairdressers who made it all possible- Tanya, Jessica, Mia and Noel.”
