A grazing management workshop for horse owners is being held at the Tamworth Agriculture Institute Training Centre on the 31st of March.
Stuart Myers from Equiculture – short for equine permaculture – will be presenting the workshop. Myers is an acclaimed author and expert on horse property management. The presentation is aimed to assist horse owners and land managers to develop a sustainable property that benefits owners, horses and the environment.
This is an excellent opportunity for horse owners on small to medium properties to review and refine their skills in grazing management. Participants will learn about:
- Grazing behaviour of horses
- Grazing management of horses
- Innovative design of horse properties
- Practical solutions to common problems faced by horse owners
- Help to become a ‘grass farmer’ and save you time and money
- Steps to creating healthy horses, healthy, sustainable pastures and healthy land
Attendees will learn how to maintain suitable pastures for horses whilst encouraging biodiversity, as well as how to manage manure, water and vegetation and how to design (or re-design) your horse property to generate the best outcomes.
In addition to learning about sustainable horse and land management, participants will learn all about equine welfare. This applies to experienced horse owners as well as inexperienced horse owners alike.
The event is being organised through Local Land Services who are generously subsidising the cost. The workshop is one of many workshops held by Local Land Services Small Farms and Lifestyle Block Owners Program. The SFLB network acknowledges that many smaller farms and lifestyle holdings remain a key piece in the puzzle to ensure large-scale healthy environmental systems are maintained and provide support for small landholders to develop and manage their properties more sustainably and adopt best practices in agriculture and land management.
The cost of the event is $33 inclusive of GST. Morning tea and lunch are being provided.
