Wallabadah and Quirindi will soon be getting a number of lighting and accessibility upgrades worth more than a million dollars.
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson announced that $1,037,643 in funding would go towards upgrading street lighting in Wallabadah, upgrading the lighting at Longfield Ovals (1 and 2) in Quirindi, and improving disability access in Quirindi.
Wallabadah Community Association President Tania Hartigan welcomed the $77,133 investment in street lighting upgrades in Wallabadah.
“The lighting is certainly going to make it a safer place and will be helpful for the tourists who come and stay in our freedom camping ground,” said Ms. Hartigan.
Liverpool Plains Shire Mayor Doug Hawkins OAM said the upgrades to Longfield Ovals was a big win for the community.
“These ovals are used extensively for a wide range of sporting events and activities and these improvements will make them far more accessible for users right throughout the year,” said Mayor Councillor Doug Hawkins OAM.
The $275,310 investment in disability upgrades in Quirindi were important for a community with an ageing population, Mr Anderson said.
“We need to do everything we can to make public infrastructure and amenities accessible for all, which is why it’s great to see significant funding going towards disability amenities and access in Quirindi.”
“We are also investing $685,200 in upgrading the lights at Longfield Ovals, and it’s my hope that we will be seeing day/night cricket in Quirindi very soon,” Mr Anderson said.
