The 2025 Trend Tiles Inverell Breast Cancer Support Group Charity Golf Day is shaping up to be an unforgettable event, with a full field of 144 players ready to hit the greens this Sunday, 23rd February, at the Inverell Golf Club.
Event organiser Melinda Davis, along with her husband and the Inverell Breast Cancer Support Group (IBCSG), are behind this exciting day, which is not only about golf but also about raising crucial funds to support local women and children diagnosed with cancer.
“The IBCSG is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing financial support to local families facing the unexpected challenges that come with a cancer diagnosis,” said Melinda. “Their assistance is instrumental in alleviating financial burdens during such difficult times.”
For Melinda, this event is deeply personal. Diagnosed with breast cancer at just 38 in November 2019, she experienced firsthand the overwhelming nature of the disease. “Within a week of my diagnosis, the IBCSG reached out, offering financial support for scans and consultations. Their generosity helped me and my family navigate those early, stressful days,” she said.
With two previous events in 2021 and 2023 raising an impressive $34,000 collectively, expectations are high for another successful fundraiser. The event has already garnered strong community support, with tickets still available in the ongoing community raffle, which will be drawn on the day. “The lovely ladies from the IBCSG will be selling raffle tickets outside RDR Real Estate from Wednesday to Saturday, 9 am to 12 noon,” said Melinda.
The online auction is also proving popular, with exciting items up for grabs including signed Melbourne Storm and Newcastle Knights jerseys, a pet enclosure, 3% ownership in a racehorse, and a custom John Deere Baby Q Weber. The auction closes at 6 pm on Saturday, 22nd February, with winners collecting their prizes on the golf day.
Golfers of all levels will tee off at 10 am, ready to take on a course filled with fun challenges and incredible prizes. This year’s special holes add an extra layer of excitement:
- “Stacey’s Way” on Hole 17 – A heartfelt tribute to Stacey Ryan, a passionate supporter of the charity day, where players will swap their putters for a hockey stick to honour her memory.
- “Switch On The 6th” on Hole 6 – Young James Davis will take tee shots for players in exchange for a donation, offering a handy advantage for those who aren’t seasoned golfers.
- “The Welder’s Dog Party Hole” on Hole 12 – Featuring DJ Fairway Beats, a ‘spin the wheel’ challenge, and plenty of giveaways, this hole promises to be a crowd favourite.
- Hole 4 – The ultimate challenge – A hole-in-one here could send one lucky player to Augusta in 2026 to witness The Masters live, with a prize valued at $15,000!
Even non-golfers are encouraged to come along and soak up the atmosphere. The newly established clubhouse deck will be buzzing with live entertainment throughout the day, featuring PJ Childs from 12 pm with smooth acoustic tunes, followed by Kelvin Cox and Jacquie Press performing hits from the ‘70s to now from 2 pm.
A special golf day raffle exclusive to attendees will be drawn at the end of the presentations around 4 pm, with over $8,000 in prizes up for grabs. For those with a competitive streak, longest drive competitions, closest-to-the-pin prizes, and overall winners will take home well-earned bragging rights. There’s even a kids’ driving competition, so young golf enthusiasts can get in on the action too!
The event’s success is made possible by the incredible generosity of local businesses and supporters. “It’s been overwhelming to see the community come together—whether through raffle prize donations, food contributions, or monetary support,” said Melinda.
Trend Tiles Inverell has once again stepped up as the major sponsor, with thanks going to Josh and Jess Gartshore for their continued support. An additional 19 minor sponsors have also joined the cause, ensuring this year’s event will be bigger and better than ever.
With golf, entertainment, and fantastic prizes on offer, this charity day is set to be a true celebration of community spirit and generosity. Don’t miss out on what promises to be an unforgettable day for a great cause!
