The Seasons of New England Store in Uralla is moving to the beautiful heritage building known as The Stables.
Closing its doors at 58 Bridge Street at 4 pm on 25 October, the Seasons of New England Store will open in its new location at 31 Salisbury Street on Friday, 1 November.
“I’ve long had a connection with the heritage buildings in Uralla, so I’m very excited to move into The Stables which will lend itself beautifully to the range of locally made products we have in store at Seasons of New England,” Tara Toomey of Seasons said.
The move has been driven by a desire to have a permanent home, and further embed Seasons of New England into the fabric of Uralla’s tourist attractions.
“We decided to move because we have no tenure in place for our current store. So moving to The Stables, which is owned by the Uralla Historical Society, has provided us with greater security and a beautiful new location full of character.”
“It’s authentic and it’s Uralla, we’re very pleased with it.”
Located just a short 4-minute walk from the original Seasons store, The Stables shares the same block as the McCrossin’s Mill Museum. Built on local Uralla red brick and lime in 1878, The Stables won the 1998 New England Heritage And Urban Design Award for Restoration and Interior Fit Out. Complete with adzed floor joints that protrude through brickwork, a courtyard garden (aptly named Felicity Forrest after the donor of the birch trees), and even a patch of strawberries, this building is the perfect place to house one of Uralla’s favourite stores.
“We will also be sharing the premises with the local Lacemakers Group, located at the back of The Stables building.
“We’re very much looking forward to supporting greater visitation to the McCrossin’s Mill Museum and will be collaborating with them to host regular events throughout the year,” Tara said.
The Seasons of New England store is a treasure trove of locally made products, offering a place for local makers and creators to sell their creations all year round. Throughout November and December, the new Seasons of New England store will have an extended retail space and complimentary gift wrapping and hamper making available for all gifts purchased.
“In November, December, January and March we will also be hosting food events, markets and creative workshops at The Mill – we’ve got so much planned already.”
In November, the Seasons of New England store is hosting several pop-up events in the lead-up to Christmas. You can peruse the Uralla Christmas Fair and Market, nibble on gingerbread at the gingerbread tasting, make a wish at The Stables’ Wishing Tree (in place until Christmas Eve) and watch the Lacemakers demonstration.
On Saturday 23 November and Sunday 24, take part in adult and kids’ pottery workshops with Latenight pottery, learn how to blend holistic tea with Rebecca Williams, crochet your heart out with workshops led by Stitches and Knots, create your very own toys at the toy-making and sewing workshops with Sew Anna, discover the art of macrame with Highland Weave, and learn how to craft your own lampshade coverings with Peg Leg Frida.
Book your spot for the workshop using the Seasons of New England website – have fun with your nearest and dearest, make new friends and learn something new.
So, how do you find the new store?
“You enter through the side gate of The Stables building and follow the pathway, it’s a real hidden treasure,” Tara says.
“We’ll have flyers up in lots of places to help you find us, as well as plenty of signage on the building too.”
