Artists from across the New England Northwest and beyond are invited to participate in the inaugural PLC Armidale Signature Art Prize, an acquisitive art competition with a $10,000 prize pool.

Entries will be accepted online until August 16, and the finalists will be notified in early September, so they can send the selected work to Armidale for final judging and exhibition.

“The competition will be judged by an esteemed panel of industry leaders, including renowned artist Angus Nivison, distinguished curator and exhibition manager Belinda Hungerford, and celebrated gallerist Allison Bellinger,” PLC Armidale College Principal Nicola Taylor said.

Angus Nivison was born and raised in Walcha and won the Wynne Prize in 2002. His work is predominantly landscapes inspired by the Northern Tablelands, and is part of most major Australian museums and private collections.

Allison Bellinger is a former PLC students who lives on a farm north of Inverell with her husband.  In 2015 she established the AK Bellinger Gallery in Inverell, and now has a stable of important exhibiting Australian artists and a revolving stockroom of visiting and emerging artists who provide an exciting and diverse exhibition program.

Belinda Hungerford has been the Manager Exhibitions & Curatorial at the New England Regional Art Museum in Armidale since 2019. She has 15 years’ experience in exhibitions and collections in not-for-profit, private and state organisations.

“Their expertise and insight promise to make this a prestigious and highly competitive event,” Mrs Taylor said.

The finalists will be revealed, and the winners will be announced at a special exhibition and dinner on October 19.

“This event promises to be a highlight on the cultural calendar, bringing together artists, art lovers, and industry professionals for a night of celebration and artistic excellence,” Mrs Taylor said.

Professional artists are encouraged to enter their work online by August 16.
