Kootingal remains on top of the Whitehaven Coal Group 4 Ladies League Tag competition with Saturday’s 24-4 win over Dungowan Cowgirls at the Dungowan Recreation Reserve.

The Roosterettes enjoy the competition lead only on for and against though as they and Werris Creek sit level on 13 points and enjoying unbeaten seasons.

The two sides clashed in Round 4 at Kootingal when they played out an 18-all draw.

Kootingal coach, Jeff Faint, was delighted with the result and a four-try success at Dungowan.

“It was a really good win, a tough local derby and something you don’t expect anything less. We’ve had some strong games in recent weeks and we knew we had to be fair dinkum and give a good performance against a good side.

Faint said the Roosterettes were “really composed in the first half”.

“We led 12 nil, kicked and chased well.”

He thought Nikki Berryman had a big game while Maddi Roach controlled the attack well with Emily Ryan excelling when she went to fullback for the injured Monique Corbett.”

Corbett polled well in the G4 B&F Award, earning the three points whilst also scoring a try and kicking three goals. She also earned the club three points as well.

Dungowan coach, Natasha Allan, was disappointed with the Cowgirls.

“Our girls didn’t turn up today,” she said.

“They say everyone has got one bad game in them. Hopefully that was ours. There was no energy today and a poor attitude.”

Fullback Georgia was an exception.

“She had good chat and a lot of energy and effort, but there’s not much more I can say.”

It was a unique day for LLT teams with all four away sides victorious.

Werris Creek kept their unbeaten record intact at Moree with a 20-nil win over the Boars, Dayna Porter and Maya Patterson outstanding for the Magpies.

At Wee Waa North Tamworth remained hot on the heels of the competition leaders with a 50-4 win over the Panthers.

Dhalara Knox was in great form again for the Bearettes, scoring two tries and earning two G4 B&F points. Teammate Alyssa Davis polled the three points.

Gunnedah completed the away teams’ success when they beat the Bluebirds 48-nil at Narrabri on Sunday.
