Glen Innes has welcomed a new doctor to town.
AMH Medical Centre and Local Connect have announced the arrival of Dr. Danyal Tarachi, a talented and compassionate medical professional whose story and skills are already making a meaningful impact on the local community.
Dr. Tarachi, 28, comes from the town of Bartella in Northern Iraq and brings with him not only medical expertise but a rich background in arts, culture, and community spirit.
Raised in a close-knit Orthodox Christian family, Dr. Tarachi has been involved in theatre, music, and poetry from the age of two and became a professional pianist by the age of 12—playing entirely by heart and memory.
His medical journey began in 2014 when he entered medical school and quickly rose to the top of his class, earning academic honours including third place in general surgery at Nineveh University. Despite setbacks due to political unrest in Iraq, including a cancelled scientific exchange to Washington, he remained focused on his goals.
Dr. Tarachi’s relocation to Glen Innes has been supported through The Welcome Experience, a program delivered by Local Connect (formerly Attract, Connect, Stay – Glen Innes) that helps essential workers, and their families settle into rural communities with tailored support and connection to community networks.
Dr. Peter Annetts of AMH Medical Centre said attracting doctors to Glen Innes and the surrounding villages remains a top priority.
“We’re committed to ensuring the people of Glen Innes and our surrounding villages have access to quality, consistent healthcare. Recruiting doctors like Dr. Tarachi is essential to building a strong local medical workforce. We’re delighted to welcome him to the team and grateful for the support of Local Connect in helping make this transition successful.”
“Pagan through Local Connects ‘The Welcome Experience’ has played a key role in helping me feel supported, welcomed, and connected as I begin this new chapter,” Dr. Tarachi said.
“I’m very grateful and hopeful about what lies ahead here.”
Executive Manager, Local Connect, Margot Davis welcomed Dr. Tarachi on behalf of the community.
“Dr. Tarachi is a fantastic addition to our community — not only as a skilled doctor, but as a person of heart, culture and dedication. His journey to Glen Innes is inspiring, and we’re so proud of the role Local Connect and AMH have played in supporting his transition.”
AMH Medical Centre, in partnership with Local Connect, remains committed to attracting and supporting high-calibre professionals to the Glen Innes region through programs that build belonging and long-term success.
