Motor vehicle enthusiasts get ready for another great weekend in Tenterfield as the annual Show and Shine rolls into town on Saturday and Sunday, April 12 and 13.

The annual event is held on the grounds of the Tenterfield Transport Museum and raises funds for the museum.

Gavin Hillier, one of the event organisers, says they’re expecting 200 vehicles to participate over the weekend, kicking off with the first event – the Mystery Wine Tour.

“The wine tour is really popular, so you do need to be registered to attend. I believe this is all booked out now, but you can reach out via our Facebook page to double-check, and Troy will get back to you,” said Mr Hillier.

On Sunday, everyone is welcome to come along to either show their vehicle or just admire others’ magnificent sets of wheels.

The Show and Shine will start at 9am on Sunday 13 April. The show will run until approximately 1pm, with presentations to follow.

There’s also fun to be had at the Tyre Changing Competition and Tappet Cover Racing.

If you’re wondering what Tappet Cover Racing is, Mr Hillier says, “You get a tappet cover, put some wheels on it, make it look silly, and race it down a ramp—if you win, you get a little trophy.”

For the more serious Show and Shine competition, there is a wide range of categories open to winning prizes. Last year, 19 separate awards were handed out, plus an overall Top 5 and a People’s Choice.

The categories range from Top Paint to Top Vintage Caravan, Best Import, Best Bike, and more. If you think your vehicle has what it takes, check in with the event organisers and get your pride and joy ready for the day.

The canteen will be running in the museum selling coffee and hamburgers, the proceeds of which will also go towards the museum. If sweet treats are more to your taste, the Tenterfield Lions Club will be on-site selling their famous doughnuts.

Raffle tickets will also be available for purchase on Sunday. There will be prizes worth more than $1000, as well as lucky door prizes and other giveaways throughout the day.
