Armidale Regional Council (ARC) is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the development of council-owned land for social housing, reinforcing its commitment to increasing affordable housing in the region.
At its general meeting on August 6, 2024, Council resolved to invite the housing industry to explore opportunities for developing council land for this purpose.
The resolution aligns with the objectives of Council’s Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS) and Local Housing Strategy (LHS), both endorsed in 2024, which prioritise planning for increased social housing development.
This objective is also part of the Liveable Region Pillar (places and spaces) of Councils Operational Plan (2022-2032).
“Social housing is not just about buildings – it’s about giving individuals and families the stability they need to thrive,” said ARC Mayor Sam Coupland.
“With rising housing costs, it’s more important than ever that we take proactive steps to provide affordable housing options. This initiative reflects our commitment to a more inclusive and supportive community.
“Housing stress in our region is real and Council is committed to working with partners to deliver much-needed social housing. By collaborating, we can create real solutions to make sure we have more affordable housing available in our region.”
Council will be receiving EOIs until Monday 21 April via VendorPanel, www.vendorpanel.com.au/PublicTenders.aspx?emcc=8ABAC3696EE5&mode= all.
