The $53 million Gunnedah Hospital Redevelopment has reached a significant milestone, with the structure of the new acute services building complete and new roof installed.

The Gunnedah Hospital Redevelopment includes construction of a new acute services building, housing an expanded emergency department as well as a modern birthing, maternity, and inpatient unit.

“It’s wonderful to see the progress for the Gunnedah Hospital Redevelopment project as the new building takes shape.” said Minister for Regional Health, Ryan Park.

“This project will provide new and enhanced healthcare services to support Gunnedah and the surrounding communities now and into the future.”

In the coming months work will progress on the internal fit-out and exterior works. Work is also underway around the hospital campus to install and connect new services to support the new hospital building.

“This redevelopment is benefiting the local economy already. To date, during this construction phase, 11 local contractors have been involved in or supporting construction of the project, as well as eight local suppliers from Gunnedah and Tamworth.” Said Government Spokesperson for Tamworth, Anthony D’Adam.

Construction of the new acute services building is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

The new hospital’s design reflects the Gunnedah landscape and includes modern, calming, and welcoming spaces which have been designed in consultation with staff and the local community to support contemporary models of care.

The $53 million Gunnedah Hospital Redevelopment is being delivered by Hunter New England Local Health District, Health Infrastructure, with Richard Crookes Constructions as the principal contractor.
