Bunnings is stepping up to support communities affected by recent extreme weather events in Queensland and New South Wales, partnering with not-for-profit donation platform GIVIT for a nationwide sausage sizzle fundraiser.
Tomorrow, Friday, 21 March from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Bunnings team members across Australia will fire up the BBQs to raise funds for GIVIT, which manages donations for people and communities impacted by disasters such as Cyclone Alfred and the North Queensland floods.
All of the region’s Bunnings stores are understood to be involved in the event, some getting local charities to assist. Our neighbours to the east and the north-eastern part of the New England are still cleaning up, with a great deal of work ahead to remove rubbish, repair homes and roads, and get things back to normal.
Bunnings Director of Stores, Rod Caust, highlighted the company’s commitment to lending a hand where it is needed most.
“Our team always embrace the opportunity to help out where they can and getting on the BBQ tongs to support communities impacted by recent weather events is no different,” said Caust.
“Some of our teammates live in the impacted areas and have been on the ground providing hands-on help to their communities with recovery efforts. Our national fundraising BBQ in partnership with GIVIT is another way we can get behind them and show our support with hundreds of Bunnings sausage sizzles taking place all over Australia this Friday, March 21,” he said.
Alongside the nationwide sausage sizzle, Bunnings customers will also have the opportunity to contribute directly by making a donation to GIVIT either online or in-store at the register.
GIVIT CEO, Chris Staines, expressed gratitude for Bunnings’ efforts in supporting disaster-affected Australians.
“GIVIT is so grateful to Bunnings and their customers for supporting our work ensuring flood and cyclone-impacted communities have access to the essential goods and services they need to recover from these disasters,” said Staines.
“We are working with these communities to provide immediate relief through grocery and fuel vouchers as well as furniture, whitegoods and household essentials when people are able to move home. Thanks to the Bunnings team for providing this simple way for people to help their fellow Australians who are doing it tough,” he said.
More than 290 Bunnings stores are expected to participate in the event. However, stores impacted by weather conditions or food shortages may not be able to take part.
For more than 25 years, Bunnings has supported local community groups and organisations through fundraising sausage sizzles. This latest initiative continues that tradition, providing much-needed relief to Australians facing the challenges of rebuilding after TC Alfred and other flooding events.
