Award-winning country artist Aleyce Simmonds releases her heartfelt new single, Things I’ve Learned, on January 17, inspired by her baby daughter, Georgia.

Written while pregnant, Things I’ve Learned tells of the highs and lows of life’s journeys, showing how every experience shapes who we are and highlights the things that are important to Aleyce that she now wants to pass on to her now one-year-old.

“When I couldn’t sleep, I’d get up, sit at my desk, and just write or work,” Aleyce said.

“The words just fell out of me. At the time, I wasn’t feeling well, and I kept reflecting on all the roads that led me to where I was. It’s surreal to think that without the hard times, I wouldn’t have Georgia – this beautiful baby.”

The song explores universal themes of pain, heartbreak, and resilience, while also highlighting the hope that gets us through tough times.

“With pain and heartbreak and grief in general, at one point you’re in the middle of it, and then you’re not: it’s there and then it’s gone,” Aleyce said.

“Those little pockets of light that you need to hold onto to get a bigger piece of light which, for me, was Georgia.”

The single was produced by Simon Johnson at his Hillbilly Hut Studios and features harmonies from Karlee and Michael Cole, Vaughan Jones on keys, Rod Motbey on guitars, Brad Bergen on drums with additional recording done with Steve Newton, at Enrec Studios in Tamworth.

This release marks a milestone for Aleyce, who is celebrating 20 years since her breakout hit, Mighty Mighty Love and winning Telstra Road to Tamworth. Mighty Mighty Love became the most played country song on commercial radio in history. Aleyce plans to honour this anniversary with new releases and shows throughout the year.

“Since having Georgia, I’ve felt my fire reignite,” Aleyce said.

“She’s completed me in ways I didn’t expect. I want her to be proud of me and know the stories of the incredible places I’ve been and the things I’ve done – almost as if they’re her own. This song is part of that legacy, and I want Georgia to know she can do anything in life.”

With this single, Aleyce invites listeners to reflect on their own lives, whether they’re in a great place or facing challenges.

“I’d like for people to be able to relate to it, take away something from it, perhaps look at where they are in their lives and whether it be in a great place, or a terrible place every single step that we walked, every single road that we travelled, determines who we are and who we become,” she said.

Aleyce launched the single with her Tamworth Country Music Festival show, 20 Years of Songs & Stories, on Thursday, January 23 in The Bluebird Room at Tamworth Community Events Centre.
