Australia is chock full of people with a huge variety of backgrounds, skills and interests, and this Australia Day, January 26, we get to celebrate the lot!

Check out what’s happening around the region this Aussie Day.

Gunnedah Shire

Gunnedah will be holding its ceremony on the 25th at 5pm in the Civic in Chandos Street, followed by an Australia Day Awards Ceremony. Tickets to the ceremony are $10, with canapes on arrival and. Tickets can be purchased here.

On Australia Day itself, Gunnedah pool will offer free entry and a barbecue lunch. There’ll also be a triathlon, a Rotary Breakfast, open days at bother Dorothea Mackellar Memorial Centre and the Rural Museum, a car and bike display, an Australia Day Bake-Off, Australian Bowls Triples – and more.

“Australia Day has always been a big day on Gunnedah Shire’s calendar and this year continues the tradition,” Gunnedah Shire Council Manager Economy and Growth Susan Frater said.

“It is a day to reflect, respect and celebrate.”

“Our Australia Day Ambassador is Patrick Warmoll, Managing Director of world-famous beef producers Jack’s Creek. Patrick will be a guest at this year’s Gunnedah Shire Australia Day Awards which will be held at 6pm on Saturday, 25 January at The Civic.”

“This is a great event that celebrates our outstanding citizens, and we invite people to shout themselves a ticket to the ceremony to support these great friends and neighbours.”

“There are many events on across the Australia Day weekend, including a community barbecue and entertainment at Emerald Hill, a free community barbecue at Breeza, a community breakfast at Piallaway, and a fishing competition at Carroll supported by Council’s Australia Day Working Group Village Grants.” “Assisted by the Australian Government through the National Australia Day Council there will be free entry at the Gunnedah Memorial Pool Complex with a free barbecue lunch, and special movies on at The Civic. Community groups and businesses have also planned a host of fun activities.”

Tamworth Region

Tamworth will start the day with a church service at Tamworth Town Hall at 7:30AM, followed by a free brekkie with bacon, sausage, and egg rolls thanks to the Tamworth Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service. The Citizenship Ceremony will be held at 10AM, followed by the Australia Day Awards, with the day, and the Country Music Festival wrapping up at 9:45PM with the Toyota Best Of The Buskers: True Blue Edition in Bicentennial Park, with fireworks closing the evening.

In Barraba, Australia Day Awards will take place from 6pm at the Barraba Golf Club. From 7:30pm enjoy a BBQ and live entertainment from Nookie & the Free Spirits.

And there’s something for all the family at the Bendemeer Hotel from 10am. Enjoy live entertainment including walk-up acts, and family games with the bistro open from 11:30am.

The Kootingal and District Lions Club will be hosting an Aussie breakfast in Memory Park in Kootingal at 8am followed by an Australia Day Address. After the address enjoy games including thong toss, pumpkin bowls, and gumboot toss.  Breakfast is a gold coin donation.

The Manilla Matters S355 committee have organized a fun morning for all in Manilla. Enjoy a breakfast by the Manilla Lions Club in Pioneer Park from 8am, followed by the Australia Day awards ceremony at 9am.

Nundle will hold an Australia Day awards ceremony at 6:30pm at the Nundle Bowling Club. Stay for dinner and enjoy live entertainment by Mickey and May.

Armidale Region

Armidale will be holding its Australia Day Awards at a special event in Central Park, alongside citizenship awards ceremonies, where over 80 Armidalians will become freshly-minted Australians. Afterwards, cool off in the Armidale and Guyra pools, which are offering free entry for what promises to be a hot day, even at the top of the Range.
