It’s not everyday you get the chance to jam with an ARIA Hall of Fame inductee and multi award-winning singer-songwriter, but this was the case for The CMAA Academy of Country Music students in Tamworth.
Kasey Chambers has been visiting The Academy students for nearly 20 years where she works with the student musicians to perform a couple of songs, and speaks with all the students about her career, her history in the music industry and has a jam with all the students.
“I talk about my career, give advice and the students can ask me any questions,” she said.
“We also sit around and pass the guitar around and I get to listen to all of them sing.”
Kasey said she didn’t tell the students what they should or shouldn’t be doing, as she often worked intuitively.
“It’s about finding you and finding your own journey,” she said. “I’m always trying to follow my gut as much as I can, and it’s worked for me.”
The Academy Director Lyn Bowtell said they appreciated Kasey’s annual visits to the Senior Course so much as it inspired the students to follow their own paths.
“Kasey is an artist who has always done things her own way and stayed authentic to herself and we love that she shares this with the students and inspires them to do the same in their careers and life,” she said.
“It’s always a highlight for the students and staff when Kasey comes to jam and there was plenty of excitement when the students played in front of her.”
The Academy is running at Liberty College, Tamworth, until January 17, culminating with the Graduation Concert at Moonshiners Honky Tonk on January 16 and the students will perform at the Official Opening Concert of the Tamworth Country Music Festival in Toyota Park on January 17.
Graduation Concert tickets are on sale now via Oztix – this concert is always a sellout event.
