The new highly anticipated Bunnings Warehouse in Inverell is one step closer.
Located at 60 Jardine Road, Inverell, with an estimated cost of $15.785 million, the project marks a significant investment in the region and is set to deliver substantial economic and community benefits.
The proposed Bunnings development follows the successful rezoning of 1.8 hectares of land at Jardine Road in May 2022 to facilitate the establishment of large-format retail businesses.
The development application (DA-1/2023) for the new Bunnings store was approved on 1 October 2023, enabling the project to move forward.
The new Bunnings store will feature:
• A retail building with a total floor area of 8,497m², including:
• A main warehouse retail area (3,770m²), outdoor nursery (621m²), timber trade sales area (1,697m²), and other specialised zones.
• Sustainability features such as solar panels covering 1,400m² of the roof, rainwater capture tanks for irrigation and toilet reuse, and bio-retention areas for site runoff management.
• Extensive landscaping and green spaces across the site.
• Customer amenities, including a children’s playground and accessible toilet facilities.
• 198 parking spaces, including accessible and trailer bays, as well as dedicated service access and delivery roads.
Once operational, the new Bunnings store is expected to create 90 jobs, including full-time, part-time, and casual roles. This represents an increase of 40 jobs compared to the existing Bunnings location on Oliver Street.
The development will also support the local economy during its construction phase and long-term operation.
The project has been designed with sustainability and community needs in mind, featuring energy-efficient measures, accessible facilities, and thoughtful landscaping.
Council’s Engineering staff are currently reviewing the design plans for the Council road works to be conducted on Jardine Road in order to issue the developer with an approval to conduct the works under section 138 of the Roads Act 1993.
The developer and TfNSW are in the process of entering into a Works Authorisation Deed (WAD), which is a legally binding contract, authorising the developer to undertake roadworks on the Gwydir Highway. Council understands that the execution of the WAD will occur in the near future.
Mayor Cr Kate Dight welcomed the progress.
“The new Bunnings Warehouse is a game-changer for Inverell and the surrounding region. It will not only bring more shopping options to our community but also drive employment and economic growth.” said Mayor Dight.
“We’re proud to see such a forward-thinking development taking shape in Inverell.”
