Volunteers and community members have rallied to ensure the annual Christmas Lunch at Armidale’s Uniting Church is still a success today after thieves broke in and stole food.

The annual event is an iconic part of Christmas in Armidale, and is now in its 31st year. Any member of the community is welcome, whether in need of a meal or just in want of company for Christmas lunch. The Church Community also pick and drop of those who would otherwise have trouble getting there, to ensure no one is left out.

Yesterday a number of social media posts appeared saying the coolroom at the church was broken in to and stole food donated for the lunch.

News yesterday that the coolroom had been broken into shocked the community, who have sprung into action to replace the food and volunteered to help. They were quickly able to replace all the food, and have confirmed lunch will go ahead as planned.

The free Community lunch is on today at the Youth Centre (behind the church) starting at 11.30am. All are welcome, both at the lunch, at at Christmas Day services prior starting from 9.30.
