Equipment upgrades are on the way to Armidale’s Gowrie Learning Centre from the Greater New England Community Funding Program, as they continue to provide essential support to migrant and refugee parents.
The service, co-located with TAFE NSW, enables parents to focus on learning English through the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP), knowing their children are being cared for in a safe and secure environment nearby.
The program is offered free of charge to parents as they complete up to 510 hours of English lessons, creating opportunities for families to integrate into the community and build new lives.
Kylie Giles, Coordinator of AMEP Early Learning at Gowrie, said the funding would go a long way toward improving the experience for children and their families.
“This grant will allow us to upgrade much-needed resources and equipment for our early learning centres,” Ms Giles said.
“For many families, this service is life changing. It not only supports children’s development but also gives parents the confidence to pursue their education and build a better future for their families in Australia.”
Greater Bank New England Regional Manager Will Boyd said the program reflects the power of community organisations that drive meaningful change.
“Gowrie Learning Centres is a shining example of how local initiatives can break down barriers and help families thrive,” Mr Boyd said.
“Their work supports parents to take that critical first step toward integration while ensuring their children are cared for in a safe environment. We are proud to back such an impactful program.”
The entrants for the December round of the #GreaterNewEngland Community Funding Program, where there’s another $3,000 up for grabs, are Boggabri Junior League Football Club, Kootingal Public School P&C and Riseup Tamworth Incorporated.
Voting is open until 5.00pm Wednesday 18 December at https://www.greater.com.au/greaternewengland
