If you’re in or around Armidale or Uralla, and find yourself in need of a plumber, Le Messurier Plumbing and Gas might just be the company you need on speed dial.

Recent winners of Best Plumber in the New England, the small but mighty team are some of the unsung heroes of trade, plugging away at the often less than glamorous but highly necessary plumbing needs of the region.

Owner of Le Messurier Plumbing and Gas, Eric Le Messurier, said his chosen line of work came from some unexpected circumstances.

“I actually always had it in my mind that I was going to be a graphic designer and I did a few weeks work experience in the field but that didn’t work out. Then I was doing a bit of casual work at UNE straight out of school and I had a mate suggest to me a plumbing apprenticeship, which I started in 2007 and just never really looked back.”

Mr Le Messurier has been out working in his own business now for nearly four years.

“I really enjoy working for myself, there’s just something about the responsibility and accountability of being your own boss,” he said.

He now also has another Armidale-based plumber, Jake, working with him and says that things are flowing smoothly.

“Its definitely keeping us busy – between the two of us we cover a mix of jobs in Armidale, Uralla and the surrounding suburbs.”

“We mainly specialise in maintenance work but we are taking on a few new home builds at the moment as well.”

Mr Le Messurier has recently worked on the extensive renovations at The Top Pub and credits the team there as being some of his biggest supporters.

“I’ve worked with The Top Pub since the beginning, along with the Uralla Golf Club and the Bowling Club they’ve all been incredibly supportive,” said Mr Le Messurier.

“Same goes for the local Uralla community, I’ve got some really good loyal clients here and I always try to make sure that I put them first.”

Another huge source of support comes from Mr Le Messurier’s wife, Emma.

“Emma is doing all the hard work running our four kids around which just enables me to focus and get the jobs done but I’m really hoping we can get to enjoy a little bit more family time next year!”

Along with some more family time, Mr Le Messurier hopes that an apprentice might be on the cards for 2025.

“We did look at hiring someone qualified earlier this year but just didn’t find the right fit so I’m really hoping there’ll be an apprentice on the horizon next year – it’s just about finding the right person with the right work ethic,” he said.

It is perhaps this work ethic that has made Le Messurier Plumbing such a stand out in the industry and something that the team consistently prides themselves on upholding.

“It’s something me and Jake definitely try to stick to – you know it’s the little things, you take your shoes off at the door and you leave the place neat and tidy like you found it,” said Mr Le Messurier.

“I take a lot of pride in my work and always try to be honest and professional.”

“At the end of the day we’re providing a service that people are paying a lot of money for and we always want to aim to be fair and exceed expectations.”
