Glen Innes Severn Council will host a roundtable meeting to discuss further strategies for enhancing public safety.
The meeting will bring together key stakeholders, including the Glen Innes Business Chamber, sponsors of a recent petition from the business community and local Police.
“The meeting will provide an opportunity for these stakeholders to collaboratively identify practical measures to ensure public safety and address the impacts of unacceptable behaviour on local businesses and residents.” said Mayor Cr Margot Davis.
“We are fortunate that the levels of crime in our community are much less than other regional locations however we want to ensure that continues and we wish to work with the community to make our region even safer.”
At its recent Ordinary Meeting, Council acknowledged community concerns about crime and reaffirmed its proactive approach to public safety.
Following a petition from the business community requesting the installation of street surveillance cameras, Council committed to several actions, including, pursuing external funding opportunities to expand CCTV coverage alongside current budget allocations, collaborating with property owners to encourage private surveillance initiatives and developing a comprehensive Public Safety and Asset Protection CCTV Strategy.
