Fresh from The Voice Australia, New Zealand singer-songwriter Jaydin Shingleton is full steam ahead with his new single, Freight Train.
The high-energy country-rock song was inspired by his fiancée, Victoria, and Jaydin aims to grab the attention of listeners fresh off his success as a semi-finalist on The Voice Australia.
A member of Team Guy (Sebastian), the Westport NZ artist is channelling his momentum into this powerful and heartfelt track, which showcases his dynamic vocal range and storytelling talents.
“Freight Train is a happy song—a bit of country rock that shows off who I am as an artist,” Jaydin said.
“It’s about my fiancée. This girl has just blown me away, and that’s where the song stemmed from. It started with the melody, and I knew it needed to be powerful.”
The song, written solely by Jaydin, is deeply personal.
“It’s a perfect example of when you’re in the right situation, things just happen,” he said.
“When I met Victoria and we started our relationship, it all came together. She loves it—she says, ‘That’s me, I did that!’ She loves it when I sing the song.”
Freight Train blends heartfelt lyrics with a driving melody, embodying the joy and energy of a love that moves at full speed.
“This song shows a lot of what I can do as an artist,” Jaydin said.
“It highlights light and shade, power, and storytelling, giving me an advantage with the crowd when I perform it live. I want to be able to share my stories, and Freight Train is the perfect way to do that.”
The release of Freight Train finishes off a huge year for Jaydin and heralds the beginning of a busy 2025 for Jaydin, with plans to release more new music, including another single shortly after the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
Fans can also catch him performing live during at the festival, including appearances at Duncan Toombs’ show, Toyota Fanzone, and on the New Zealand Showcase.
Having completed The CMAA Academy of Country Music twice, Jaydin is eager to build on his Australian success. He’s planning a permanent move to Brisbane in 2025 to continue growing his career.
“I’d love to be in Australia just after April and carry that momentum,” he said.
