With a successful Joey’s Mini World Cup wrapped up, event organisers have presented a donation of $2,100 to local charity, Operation: Operating Room.

Each year, the Mini World Cup includes a charity category, where businesses play abridged matches in a round robin format for the honours of being the Business Charity event winner. The initiative is the brainchild of Inverell FC’s James Sweeney and Damien Schutz.

Fourteen teams competed in this year’s charity category, with Danthonia Designs claiming the winner’s trophy and nominating Operation Operating Room as their charity of choice to receive the funds.

Operation Operating Room has been established since 2006 and is a charity dedicated to raising money for equipment and preventative health initiatives at Inverell Hospital.

OOR representatives Kerry Hall, Norann Voll and Pam Weste recently attended Inverell Hospital to receive the donation from the Mini World Cup organisers.

President of Operation: Operating Room Kerry Hall said they are very grateful to the Joeys Mini World Cup and charity event winners Danthonia Designs team for choosing Operation: Operating Room for their donation.

“It was an unexpected boost to our fundraising efforts and very much appreciated.”

“We have just donated two major pieces of equipment to the hospital, a portable ultrasound and a Trophon Disinfection Unit. We are now considering, in consultation with the hospital, what the next items will be.”

Joeys Mini World Cup founder Heinrich Haussler says the donation to Operation Operating Room is just one example of how the annual football tournament provides long lasting benefit to the community.

“This year’s event was a record number of teams for Inverell and next year, we are expecting even bigger numbers, including a German team and the return of at least one team from Adelaide.”

“We are so pleased to see the charity event of the Mini World Cup raise these funds for healthcare in Inverell.”

The 2025 Mini World Cup will be held 2-5 October in Inverell and Mr Haussler says the event will once again help raise funds for a local charity.

Local businesses, rival sports clubs, community groups and football fans are encouraged to nominate a team for the charity category of the event.
