David Scott has been elected to Glen Innes Severn Council following a countback election conducted on Tuesday, November 19.
A countback was held to fill a casual vacancy following the resignation of Councillor Rob Banham on October 10.
At its first meeting following the September 2024 election, Council resolved to fill any vacancies through a countback process. Countback allows the Council to fill a casual vacancy using a recount of the ballot papers from the last ordinary election, instead of requiring an attendance by election. This process is conducted by the NSW Electoral Commission (NSWEC)
In the 28 days after Cr Banham’s resignation, the Returning Officer from the NSWEC contacted all unelected candidates from the September 2024 election who were eligible for the countback election. Candidates who wished to participate submitted formal applications, and only these candidates were included in the process.
Glen Innes Severn Council Mayor Margot Davis welcomed Cr Scott’s election.
