Student’s from across the New England have put their public speaking skills to the test in the region’s inaugural Public Speaking competition at McCarthy Catholic College.
The groundbreaking event brought together talented students from Calrossy, Farrer, Carinya, The Armidale School, St Mary’s Gunnedah, O’Connor Catholic College Armidale, and McCarthy Catholic College, showcasing the next generation of speakers from our region.
The competition featured students from Stage 4 (Years 7 and 8) and Stage 5 (Years 9 and 10) as they demonstrated their skills in both prepared and impromptu speaking formats.
Participants presented a speech on a topic of their choosing, followed by an impromptu speech where they crafted their ideas on a surprise topic with only minutes to prepare.
This dual format not only highlighted their creativity and eloquence but also tested their ability to think on their feet—a vital skill in today’s fast-paced world.
At the end of the competition, it was a mixed bag or results shinning through.
