Titans Space Development Corporation, Titans Space, US-based aerospace company, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Moree’s Space Port Australia Pty Ltd, with aims to explore potential locations in Australia for Titans Space’s development, manufacturing and launching of Titans Spaceplanes and crafts.

The companies are now looking for a suitable site for Titans to launch and land their space planes, which could either be a Greenfields site where they build a new runway, or an existing runway of at least 12,000ft (almost 3700 meters) length. There are a number of runways in Australia long enough, such as the new Western Sydney runway, but the Wellcamp Runway at Toowoomba is too short. If it is a new site it will of course need to be large, flat, and not prone to flooding.

Designed building on existing technology, Titans’ Genesis Spaceplanes take off and land like a large plane, but becomes a rocket once it leaves the atmosphere.  It can glide home to land or use its jet engines, depending on requirements. The planes can be used for space tourism but also have significant industrial potential, able to transport passengers or up to 93,000kg of freight.

“It’s amazing to think the future is here. Titans Space is an exciting start-up, with innovative concepts, reusable craft, with the potential of increasing Australia’s space craft operation,” Dr Gabrielle Caswell of Space Port Australia said.

“This partnership presents a significant opportunity to advance the Australian space industry, and engage contribution from NSW towards global space exploration”.

“Australia had four active Space Shuttle landing sites during the height of that program, and in the modern era Australia has even more capability to accommodate large horizontal lift craft,” said Neal Lachman, founding CEO of Titans Space.

“Australia is well placed to service South East Asia, and those who wish to combine space tourism with tourism in Australia.”

“If Titans Spaceplanes can be successfully accommodated in Australia, there is potential to create high technology aerospace support and related careers”.

Titans Space is actively seeking suitable locations to expand its operations, whilst developing its Californian site.
