Seven teams representing eight of the nine Group 4 Rugby League clubs will gather at Tamworth’s Scully Park on Saturday to initiate the creation of a women’s tackle competition for next season.

Only Narrabri won’t be represented whilst Gunnedah and Kootingal have united to provide a side in the round robin series at Scully Park, advised Northern NSW League and Club Support Co-ordinator Cody Tickle.

“Seven sides will participate in this gala day, the first of two gala days,” said Cody Tickle.

“The first is at Scully Park this Saturday. It starts at 11am. Every team will play three games.”

“The second gala day will be held at Boggabri’s Jubilee Oval on November 2.”

Teams will play in 13-a-side format, Tickle added.

“They will play 25 minutes straight with modified rules to keep the ball in play and make it more fun,” he said.

“We’re hoping this will springboard us into next year to make a sustainable tackle competition for the future.”

“We have more than 100 girls registered already. Girls have to be 17 to be able to play.”
