Spring is a great time to brush off those winter cobwebs and get out and about to see those amazing small towns you always said you should visit. This weekend, the small village of Kentucky will open its doors to the people of the New England with their annual Kentucky Spring Fair.

“Our Kentucky Spring Fair is the major annual fundraiser for the Kentucky Progress Association,” said President of the Kentucky Progress Association and Market Co-ordinator, Kevin (Kel) Hughes.

“It brings the local community together and attracts visitors from across New England, providing a platform for our local producers and craftspeople to show and sell their wares.”

Kentucky is a short but picturesque drive just 15km southwest of Uralla. With a population of around 200 people, the town will spring to life with a true country fair atmosphere, showcasing not only the great local produce and arts and crafts, but also the fantastic community spirit which holds these small villages together.

“It’s definitely worth a trip to Kentucky to check out the Fair,” said Mr Hughes.

“There will be market stalls with a range of local produce such as goats milk products, woollen items, jams and preserves, native plants and such. Also, there will be great on offer including an Ezidi stall, Beca Bakes with their deliciously tasty delights and coffee, and a sausage sizzle.”

“Of course, there will also be activities for the kids as well as face-painting. The New England Antique Machinery Club will have a great display on the day and the Thunderbolt Cruisers will also feature their vintage cars at the Fair.”

“Kentucky also has Dobson’s Distillery which is well worth a visit to taste their unique locally-produced but world-famous spirits and wines.”

All proceeds from Kentucky Progress Association activities, including the Spring Fair, are directed back into the community to the improve their communal facilities, such as the playground and community BBQ area. Currently, there is a focus on planting native trees to provide much-needed shade and visual enhancement to the park. The KPA also helps support projects which enhance Kentucky Public School.
