8 councillors to be elected from 13 candidates in Walcha, with 6 of the current council not renominating.
Mayor Eric Noakes has attracted 42.7% of the vote, in a clear sign of voter fatigue and not that unusual given most of the other candidates are unknown. Vet Rachel Greig is the only other candidate to have attracted a quota in her own right. Hyde Thomson looked like he would get there on election night, but didn’t do so well in the pre-poll and postals.
