Continuing a GLENRAC tradition since 2013, local women are being invite to come and connect for Rural Women’s Day on Tuesday evening 15th October.
The evening’s keynote speaker will be Maree Balmain, a wife and mother of two, who was handed a devastating cancer diagnosis just hours after their second child Harry was born in 2019.

As a family, they navigated nearly two years of weekly treatment crossing the NT/QLD border during the COVID 19 lockdown whilst living remotely managing the beautiful Avon Downs in the Northern Territory.
Maree shares her story candidly of facing the realities of cancer treatment in the bush, her mental health challenges and ultimately her story of survival and resilience.

Also presenting as a returning speaker is Jess Walker, a Tamworth-based Physiotherapist whose business specialises in women’s health. At Fit 2 Function, a team of health professionals including a Physiotherapist, Exercise Physiologists, Exercise Scientists, Pilates Instructor or Personal Trainer will take your hand and guide you from injury, ailment or disease back to function and beyond, ensuring you are supported and encouraged on your wellness journey.

Belinda Hook is the Marketing and Recruitment Officer for BreastScreen NSW, Hunter New England Health, based in Tamworth and another popular GLENRAC event presenter.  She is a passionate advocate of community engagement to increase the knowledge of finding breast cancer in the earliest stages through regular screenings,  to drive awareness and participation in targeted populations, and to increase the perception that screening mammograms are a routine part of maintaining good health.

Glen Innes local charity Shimmy2Support Inc. will also be present to chat about their fund-raising aimed at assisting those providing support services to victim survivors of family and domestic abuse and to encourage discussions about respectful relationships. Any personal care items our event attendees can donate will be collected for inclusion into Crisis Bags for distribution within our local community.
The 2024 Rural Women’s Day is a little different, being scheduled for the early evening, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, at the Glen Innes & District Services Club as a more convenient timeslot for women unable to attend a day-time event.
Tickets are $10, including a light supper, and can be purchased online at http://tix.yt/womens-day
