Australia’s Artesian Spa capital Moree is hosting its first running festival this weekend, dubbed “Run the Plains”. With five races on offer there’s something for everyone across the black country soils.

First off the mark on Friday night is the Kamilaroi K: A 1km sprint through Moree’s CBD. Saturday sees four races take off at the Moree Water Park, with options of 3km, 5km, 10km and 21.1km.

Those interested in punishing themselves are encouraged to “Tackle the Triple”: Combining the 21.1km + 10km + 5km races to show what they are really made of.

Run the Plains is an initiative between Tourism Moree and Little Athletics Moree to bring a new regional running festival to the community and its surrounds. The goal is to leverage the mighty running dollar, attracting not only locals but competitors from around the country to test their mettle on the local black soils.

Saturday’s runs will loop the Moree Water Park and its beautiful lakes, 10km south of Moree proper, including gravel and dirt tracks. Participants may choose to recuperate in the Recovery Zone post-event, sponsored by Grove Juice, followed by a cooling dip in the ski lake.

Friday’s Kamilaroi K welcomes singles and teams aged from 6-60 and is wheelchair accessible, while the Saturday’s events classes are outlined in further detail below.

On-track facilities at the races will include water, electrolytes, energy gels and toilets. Food and drink vendors will be on site to fuel participants and spectators, with plenty of shaded spots available for those more keen on viewing the action than running it.

Registrations are still open on Race Roster. For more information and to receive updates, follow their Facebook page.
