Looking for some free outdoor excitement and family fishing fun in NSW this Spring school holidays – that will also teach kids how to care for the environment?

OzFish and Reflections Holidays are teaming up to deliver a fun-packed day of fishing and habitat creation at beautiful Copeton Waters, 10am–3pm, Wednesday, October 2, 2024.  All materials and a free lunch will be provided, for those who register.

OzFish Murray Darling Basin Program Manager Braeden Lampard said: “Families can build fish hotels, cleanup the ecosystem and catch native fish. The event will be a perfect opportunity to join like-minded people who share a love for fishing and a commitment to ensuring sustainable fisheries into the future.”

Fish hotels are an innovative design of wooden construction, that resembles a hashtag (#). They consist of criss-crossed wooden beams placed to create a complex system of habitat that sits on the riverbed. Made from natural materials, they are environmentally friendly and a perfect location for native fish to inhabit.

Reflections CEO Nick Baker said the school holiday activity at Reflections Copeton was a chance for children to not only have fun and spend time with their family, but an opportunity to learn the importance of protecting waterways and fish habitats.

“This is a fantastic event that creates a window for families to get together in nature and work together to nurture the environment, and we’re grateful to our partners, OzFish, for hosting these activities in our beautiful park,” Mr Baker said.

Braeden said: “Our partnership with Reflections Holidays is about getting people outdoors and creating events that provide the opportunity to restore habitats and enjoy recreational fishing at its finest.”
