Glen Innes Severn Council is excited to announce that works on the Glen Innes Town Centre Beautification has started.

This project received grant funding from the Australian Governments Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program (LRCI) and is supported by Glen Innes Severn Council.

The Glen Innes Town Centre Beautification Project has been shaped by valuable input from the community. In September 2023, Council conducted community engagement drop-in sessions, in collaboration with Sala4D, where stakeholders and local residents had the opportunity to share their  thoughts and ideas on the project. This feedback has played a crucial role in guiding the design and implementation of the planned improvements.

This project is part of a broader effort to refresh and revitalise the town centre, ensuring that Glen Innes remains an attractive and vibrant place for residents, businesses, and visitors alike.

Glen Innes Severn Council General Manager Bernard Smith highlighted the significance of the project, stating, “The Glen Innes Town Centre Beautification Project represents a positive step forward for our  community. This initiative aims to enhance the vibrancy and appeal of the Glen Innes town centre, with upgrades designed to improve the overall experience for residents, businesses, and visitors,” Mr Smith  said.

The planned improvements include:

• Enhancing Greenery: Adding more plants and flowers to garden beds and roundabouts

• Upgrading Street Furniture: Installing new seating, bins, planter boxes, and bollards throughout the town centre

• Restamping the Town Square: Refreshing the town square with new restamping for improved appearance and durability

Importantly, this project will not involve:

• Kerb and gutter work

• Road and footpath alterations

• Hard infrastructure changes

• Permanent road closures

These improvements will take place intermittently over the next 12 months. To minimise the impact on local businesses, disruptive activities will be mainly scheduled on weekends and outside peak trading hours where possible. While Council understands that improvement works can be inconvenient, we are committed to minimising disruption. However, some temporary traffic interruptions may occur during this period.
