It’s been a long wait for the new supermarket planned for the Armidale Plaza to open its doors.

Armidale Plaza owner, Nick DiMauro said today that he was aware of the increasing social media activity around the Fresh & Save development in the former Kmart tenancy.

“We have been asked a number of questions about the developments progress and its opening date” he said.

“Unfortunately the project has encountered some complex technical issues, which we are working to resolve together with the builder and with Fresh and Save”.

Fresh & Save Food Warehouse was recruiting for the new Armidale store in earnest in June, and is still advertising for butchers and bakers. The Australian owned and operated warehouse style supermarkets are somewhat reminiscent of the old Franklins Fresh, offer a full on site butchery, bakery, and an emphasis on fresh produce and low prices.

Mr DiMauro expressed his appreciation for the help provided by Armidale Regional Council in working through the issues.

“Their cooperative approach and the prompt responses we are obtaining from Council are great,” he said.

He noted that Council has dedicated a senior officer to address all the matters involving the project.

While Mr DiMauro was unable to give a precise opening date, he said he was hopeful that this would be around the end of September.

“Some of the matters affecting timing are out of our control or Council’s control” he added.
