Glen Innes Severn Council has unveiled the new amenities, outdoor seating area and children’s playground in Centennial Parklands, Glen Innes.

This event marks the successful completion of a project aimed at enhancing community spaces and  expanding recreational opportunities in the Glen Innes Highlands.

Funded by the Australian Government through the Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Grants Program  (BSBR) and supported by Glen Innes Severn Council, the $1.44 million project has introduced a vibrant  new dimension to Centennial Parklands.

Located adjacent to the Croft Celtic Cultural Learning Centre and Café (Crofters Cottage), the upgrades include an all-abilities access modern amenities block, along with newly constructed outdoor seating areas and playground.

These enhancements will play a key role in local events, including the much-anticipated Australian Celtic Festival.

The Honourable Barnaby Joyce MP, Member for New England, joined Glen Innes Severn Council Mayor Rob Banham and distinguished guests to celebrate the completion of the revitalised section of  Centennial Parklands. This development represents a significant step forward in creating a more  vibrant and engaging environment for both the community and visitors.

“What makes communities thrive is places that bring people together,  that provide opportunity to connect with each other, and the opportunity for businesses to thrive.”  said The Hon. Barnaby Joyce.

“The BSBR funding supported by the Glen Innes Severn Council to further develop the Centennial  Parklands provides Glen Innes an opportunity to thrive,”

The project was carried out by Shay Brennan Constructions, whose work was crucial in delivering the  new amenities, seating areas and playground.

Mayor Rob Banham expressed his gratitude for the support received by the Federal Government and  emphasised the impact of the new section on the community.

“We are excited to officially unveil this impressive new space in our Centennial Parklands, which  reflect our ongoing commitment to enhancing community spaces in Glen Innes Severn. This new  section will undoubtedly become a central hub for both residents and visitors,” said Cr Banham.

Council looks forward to seeing this revitalised area become a cherished destination of Centennial  Parklands for years to come, fostering community connections and offering a space for enjoyment and  relaxation.
