Hydrostatic testing of the new 50m pool at the Inverell Aquatic Centre has begun, both an important milestone for the project and a good sight for locals to see that things are on track to have the new pool ready for use by mid-summer.

The $24.98M project to replace the old pool got underway in May of this year commencing with the demolition of the existing facility. The new Inverell Aquatic Centre is designed to provide a ‘one-stop-shop’ for aquatics and health and wellness to serve the needs of the Inverell Shire community as well as the surrounding region and visitors to the area.

The new facility will include a main 8-lane 50 metre outdoor/indoor pool, a 20 metre by 10 metre warm water pool with moveable floor to maximise the range of uses and an indoor splash park with an associated toddlers pool. State of the art access will ensure ease of use for all ranges of mobility.

The new 50m pool has been filled with water for testing this week prior to backfilling as an important milestone of the project. The pool will remain filled for approximately two weeks to allow for the testing process to be completed.

Excavation works and site preparation is also underway to enable the construction of the program pool. Construction will commence once the excavation has been completed.

The internal structures for the amenities, kitchen, offices and other public areas are well underway.

“Council is pleased with the progress of this incredible facility,” Mayor Paul Harmon said.

“Once completed, the Inverell Aquatic Centre will be the envy of many communities and will serve as a hive of activity for a range of water activities for all the whole community.”

Construction is expected to be completed by December this year.
