For more than 10 years some ratepayers in Woolbrook have been advocating for a change in the boundary between Tamworth Regional Council and Walcha Council.
The majority of Woolbrook township is geographically closer to Walcha, making it more practical for residents who rely on Walcha for goods and services.
As part of this proposal, both Walcha Council and Tamworth Regional Council are committed to providing the community with the opportunity to voice any concerns before changes are made.
The proposed transfer will move the township of Woolbook and several surrounding properties to Walcha Local Government Area.
“We want to do what is in the best interests of the Woolbrook community. Residents have been asking for these changes for some years now and the process is well and truly underway. The proposed area changing council includes the Rural Fire Service Shed, Woolbrook Hall and 19.6 kilometres of mostly unsealed roads that will require ongoing maintenance.” said Tamworth Regional Council Mayor, Russell Webb.
“This boundary change reflects the practical realities faced by Woolbrook residents and ensures they receive the services they depend on from the council that is most geographically and logistically aligned with their needs. We are committed to making this transition as smooth as possible for the community.” said Walcha Council Mayor, Eric Noakes.
Representatives from both Councils have met with affected residents to discuss the proposal and an agreement has been reached on the new boundary, and both councils are now prepared to move forward with the transfer.
Tamworth Regional Council and Walcha Council are actively consulting with the community and invite community members to find out more or complete the feedback form at www.haveyoursay.tamworth.nsw.gov.au.
If this proposal is successful and implemented the properties included will be rated by Walcha Council and all council-provided services will be managed by Walcha Council. Formal notification will be given to affected landholders once the transition is set to occur.
