Warialda Community Health will be providing free health clinics to a number of townships in the surrounding area over August and September.

The Outreach Clinics are designed to help people in some of the more remote communities receive some basic health checks that may otherwise be difficult for them access.

Lesley Brown-Kerr, one of the nurses in charge of the Outreach clinics said, “We generally target these clinics towards the older populations of these townships, but all ages are welcome to come down just for general health checks.”

This is the second round of Outreach Clinics to be run in the area.

“We didn’t get as much interest the first time around as we would have hoped but that was largely due to issues with advertising and getting the message out to the community, so we’re hoping this one will be much better utilised,” said Ms Brown-Kerr.

Ms Brown-Kerr, and one other nurse, as well as a foot care nurse when schedules allow will be running the clinics across five separate locations.

The clinics will be open from 10-12 on the following dates:

  • 6 August: Coolatai Hall
  • 13 August: Yetman Hall
  • 20 August: Gravesend Hall
  • 10 September: Croppa Creek Hall
  • 19 September: North Star Hall

“One thing I really encourage all our elderly population to enquire about is the My Aged Care program,” said Ms Brown-Kerr.

“It’s a really vital service, especially in more remote areas and too many people leave it until it’s too late to try and access it.”

Services available will include:

•  Weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, blood sugar and oxygen level checks

•  Health and support information

•  Some basic wound care

•  Referrals to My Aged Care or a Medical Officer if required

•  Basic foot care for non-diabetics and referrals to a podiatrist for diabetics

•  Vaccinations as appropriate for Influenza, Tetanus, Whooping Cough and Diptheria

•  Updating Patient/Client details in the Health System.

“A lot of our elderly community don’t have access to regular medical care or even the internet so these kinds of services and health checks are really important,” said Ms Brown-Kerr.

The Outreach Clinics are free of charge and no bookings are required.

Clinics will run from 10am – 12pm in
