He hasn’t yet delivered his first speech in parliament, but on his second day in the job Brendan Moylan has picked up right where Adam Marshall left, announcing two grants in Walcha yesterday.
Walcha Golf Club has been given $25,500 from the State Government to refurbish its barbeque area under the latest round of the Community Building Partnership program.
“The grant will be used to refurbish the existing BBQ area which was built many years ago – it is old, unsafe and outdated,” Mr Moylan said.
“The club’s 106 membership base will directly benefit from the upgrade, and it will enable a greater use of the facilities for social functions for the greater Walcha community.
“The 86-year-old clubhouse was refurbished in preparation for the World Sand Greens Championship earlier this year and the new BBQ area will be the final jewel in the crown.”
Walcha Golf Club President Allan Green said he was delighted to receive the funding and thanked the State Government for the opportunity to apply for it.
“Small volunteer-run clubs such as ours cannot survive without these sorts of grants being available.”
Mr Moylan said the Walcha Golf Club have engaged local builder WW Constructions to complete the project, which is anticipated to commence shortly.
Meanwhile the ceiling on Walcha Showground’s main pavilion is getting a $25,120 lift from the State Government to undertake urgent repairs under the same grant program.
Mr Moylan met with Show Society representatives in Walcha to deliver the good news and see the scope of work.
“The main pavilion is a hive of activity throughout the year and is used by many community groups during Show time, for indoor hockey, book fairs and other events,” Mr Moylan said.
“While the building is in good condition for its age, the internal ceiling is letting go of its original fastenings and it is timely to have the repairs done to prevent further deterioration.
Walcha Show Society President Daniel Kermode said they appreciated the support from the State Government for the ceiling repairs, which will provide a safer environment for all.
“The Walcha Show Society and the community users at large very much appreciate the efforts gone to by the NSW Government to secure funding to make the roof lining safe once again,” Mr Kermode said.
“Inclusive and cohesive community participation in the facility will be able to safely continue as a result of this funding.”
Mr Moylan said the contractors for the Showgrounds work are locally based in Uralla and the works will commence in the coming months.
