From the gutters of Berlin, to the night world of Rotterdam right up to high society of New York, Gunnedah is in for a treat this Saturday night.

Opera star and cabaret performer, Sally Wilson, and pianist, Mark Kruger, bring their internationally honed and recognised creative brilliance to The Civic for a performance that promises to take the audience on a wild, fun ride.

“It is a concert style performance, the music written by the likes of William Bolcom, an American composer, and Kurt Weill and we’ve got one Friedrich Hollaender song in there, a Gershwin song as well” says star of the show Sally Wilson.

“William Bolcom collaborated a lot with a New York poet called Arnold Weinstein.  I think all of the Bolcom songs we are doing have this wonderful ability to observe and comment on being human from different characters points of view.”

“From the gutter to the stars is the breadth of what’s covered in the songs.  It’s mostly in English but there’s some in German and some in French,” she said.

Rebecca Ryan, Director of the Gunnedah Conservatorium caught Sally and Mark’s performance at the Barraba Playhouse last year.

“I really loved the show.  I thought it was touching and sad in parts and laugh out loud funny in others and I had never seen some of that material before.

“I wasn’t familiar with it as a genre…the Bolcom songs, even some of the war time music.”

“I had a great night and thought we should book that show for our 2024 season,” Ryan said.

“From the gutter to the stars is the breadth of what’s covered in the songs.  It’s mostly in English but there’s some in German and some in French

The way the show comes together is described as a little bit spicy, a little bit sensuous, heartbreaking and hilarious cabaret along with pearls of sublime and a brilliant solo piano in the mix.

Good old, light-hearted fun is what you can expect.

From the Gutter to the Stars is on tomorrow night, Saturday 6th April at The Civic Gunnedah, starting at 7pm. Tickets are available online: https://events.humanitix.com/sally-wilson
