TAFE NSW Inverell is working with Individual Ability Supports (IAS) Inc Inverell, a disability and support organisation, to provide quality training and education support for their people funded under the NDIS.

TAFE NSW Inverell will deliver a range of accessible short courses at IAS, starting with the Statement of Attainment in Introduction to Drones, to provide practical skills in technology, agriculture, hospitality, and accommodation services to assist people engaged in IAS’ services in achieving their future goals.

There are currently more than 192,000 Australians who are NDIS participants in New South Wales with 536 NDIS participants in Inverell and 788 NDIS participants in Armidale. TAFE NSW Inverell worked closely with IAS to offer an accessible and achievable course that will provide essential skills for their people to operate drones on IAS’ working farm.

Individual Ability Supports (IAS) Inc Inverell’s Area Manager Alyssa Drew said it was heart-warming to witness the pride on students’ faces after they completed the Introduction to Drones course.

“Their families and the team at IAS were so proud of them for having accomplished such a huge achievement,” Ms Drew said.

“People with disabilities often face barriers and are told they can’t do things.”

“At IAS we want to remove these barriers so people can have access to more life-enriching opportunities.”

“It is amazing to see the abilities people have when they are supported and given the chance to have real-life experiences.”

TAFE NSW Inverell Head Teacher of Information Technology Jackie Sheehan said TAFE NSW Inverell is dedicated to meeting the diverse needs of their students.

“At TAFE NSW Inverell we work together as a community to ensure the very best for our students,” Ms Sheehan said. “The collaboration between TAFE NSW Inverell and Individual Ability Supports Inc demonstrates the importance of community partnerships and inclusive education. It breaks down barriers and fosters an environment where everyone has the opportunity to learn.

“The short courses we’re offering through IAS and on-campus at TAFE NSW Inverell provide the perfect opportunity for people to gain confidence and learn new skills quickly. The Introduction to Drones course offers comprehensive training over three days, covering drone operation, aerial survey techniques, and vital safety and regulatory knowledge.”
